All About Pai Gow Poker

There are numerous types of poker and video poker. Among the most widespread ones are Texas Hold ’Em, 7 Card Stud, 5 Card Draw and Omaha. Now let’s discover more about less known type, called Pai Gow. Yes, Pai Gow poker. Now you must be wondering about why Pai Gow sounds little oriental; this game is a combination of the Chinese game Pai Gow, and regular American Poker. Not one of the most well-liked versions of poker, but nevertheless played by a large amount of people, and a fun way to play cards.

It’s played with a normal deck of 52 cards, along with a joker. Oddly enough in this unusual form of Poker, the joker can be used only as an ace, or to complete a straight, a flush, a straight flush, or a royal flush. Besides the usual winning hands, Pai Gow includes a winning hand of Five Aces (four aces plus a Joker) .Five aces beat all other hands including royal flush.

Each player is dealt seven cards. The cards are organized to make two hands; a two card hand and a five card hand. The five card hand must rank higher or be adequate to the two card hand (which can only have two combinations; one pair and high card). The hands must rank higher than both of your opponents hands (both five and two card hands) to get a chance at winning. After the cards are arranged in to two hands, they’re placed on the table face down. Once they’re down, you can’t touch them. The dealer will turn over his cards and make his hands. Each players hand is compared to the dealer’s hands. If the player wins one hand and loses the other, this is called “push” and no money is exchanged. If dealer wins both hands then he/she wins the players stake and the other way around. In the eventuality of a tie, the dealer wins. Right after the very first hand is played, the position of dealer moves counter clockwise to the next player. The main issue with this game is absolutely no skill is involved…whatever cards you have dealt are what seal your fate. But, given that the position of dealer moves round the table, it’s a great break from standard poker principles.
